OFFICE OF PEACE PROJECTS

The Office of Peace Projects was launched by General Colin Powell at the Closing Ceremonies of the 2011 World Youth Peace Summit. West Hartford, Connecticut Deputy Mayor, Tim Brennan, serves as the Chair of the Office.

A “Home Base” of Wisdom
A key objective of the Office of Peace Projects is to serve as an ongoing source of information, assistance and encouragement for the extraordinary group of World Youth Peace Summit participants who will initiate their own Pathways to Peace programs in their homelands following the 2011 Summit.

Impact on Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the New England Region (A Center of World Peace)

"The State of Connecticut and the New England region are so fortunate to have this enlightened project.” - General Colin Powell

The Office of Peace Projects will become an international center of world peace – a place where ideas will be cultivated and management concepts will be made available to peace brokers on a global scale.  Moreover, the Office of Peace Projects will serve as host to a multitude of peace conferences, lectures, and other gatherings, attracting visitors to the New England region – and shining a light on the region as a center of world peace.

Dan Doyle, founder of the World Youth Peace Summit, made the following statement at the October 28, 2009 World Youth Peace Summit kick off dinner:

“Certain environments have a greater density of creative interaction - these environments become the base of game changing ideas. From creative writers gathering at the University of Iowa or at Bread Loaf at Middlebury, to thousands of artists gathering in New York City, there are certain places in the World that attract a disproportionate number of creative thinkers. The Summit will create this type of environment in New England; we will become a region of enlightened thinking and game changing ideas in the area of peace.”

The 2016 World Youth Peace Summit
The World Youth Peace Summit Office of Peace Projects will develop an on-going peace initiative that will endure for generations to come.  A key function of the Office of Peace Projects will be to plan the 2016 World Youth Peace Summit, as well as succeeding Summits, which will be held every five years thereafter.

Interacting with Participants
A central focal point of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship will be to stay in regular contact with all World Youth Peace Summit participants, as well as others who are interested in initiating Pathways to Peace programs in their home communities. The Office of Peace Projects will welcome participants through in-person visits, onsite and online seminar participation, monthly newsletters, and an online community.
